Earlier today, Lionel Messi scored his 600th career goal for FC Barcelona in their 3-0 win over Liverpool. He entered the semifinal match of the Champions League with 598 under his belt, and honestly, when you’re THAT close before a game even starts, there’s no way you’re leaving the pitch without reaching that milestone. We’d be remised if we didn’t mention that Cristiano Ronaldo also just scored his 600th club goal for Juventus over the weekend. Although, Messi accomplished this feat in 683 games while it took Ronaldo 799. We’re not trying to say who’s the better player here but… but it looks like we just did.

Somewhere, there are some super-hyped soccer statisticians shouting about the importance of today’s date: the 600th goal came 14 years to the day after Messi scored his first goal for Barcelona. With the way things happened, we’re shocked that confetti didn’t rain from the sky with #Messi600 stamped on it. What we wouldn’t give for that to have been set up, only for someone to release the confetti one goal early and make a mess of the stadium. What can we say, deep down, we’re trolls 😎.

While we don’t know if any of the FCFL players will be thriving in the league after 14 seasons (that’s a LOT of years for anyone that isn’t a kicker, and we already know there’s no kicking in our league), we do imagine there will be some that set some huge league records. And when they do, we expect their team’s front office (that’s you) to go all out when celebrating those milestones. Sure, we may not be making confetti rain from the sky, although that IS a possibility, we know the fans will be coming up with something epic. We have some time before the ‘first snap’ of the league, but it’s never too early to start brainstorming, fans!
