History, Meet Simone Biles

Over the weekend at the U.S. Gymnastics National Championship, gymnast Simone Biles solidified her status as the GOAT. First, we saw her land a double-twisting double somersault as she dismounted from the balance beam – making her the first person in history to perform it. Then to make sure everyone’s jaws stay dropped, she became the first woman in history to hit a triple-double – one of the hardest moves in the world – during her floor routine. Not only did she flawlessly execute it, but she literally FLEW through the air to do it. Per USA Today Sports’ Nancy Armour, “An NBC replay showed she was actually above its boom camera, which means someone could have parked an SUV on the floor and Biles would have cleared it easily.”

It should come to no surprise that after performing like that, Biles earned her sixth U.S. all-around title (making her the first woman in 70 years to do so), gold medals for floor, vault, and beam exercises, and a bronze medal on the bars. We’re not trying to jinx anything here, but we feel pretty confident about how the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics Team will do next summer at the Tokyo Olympics. We can’t imagine how stressed gymnasts from around the world are after watching those performances and realizing THAT is what they have to beat next summer.

Put yourselves in the shoes of an athlete that has just witnessed their competition pull off feat after feat, knowing you’re about to face off against them. If it were your team watching another team’s quarterback setting records, would you want them getting intimidated? We didn’t think so. When preparing for your team to face off against a powerhouse, we think the fans will want their team to focus on honing their own skills and running plays in practice until they’re perfect. We think the fans will even join in with their offensive and defensive coordinators when reviewing the other team’s film to identify weaknesses. When it comes to getting ready to play a tough team, we think the fans will focus on being prepared with a plan for gameday and spend zero to little time being intimidated.
