FAN Take – Sports and Dating Make A ‘Perfect Match’

By Annalece Montgomery

FAN Take is a series that highlights trending events, issues, and decisions in the world of sports and analyzes how they may or may not factor into the Fan Controlled Football League. We would love to hear your feedback, so let us know what you think about each FAN Take!

Earlier this year, both New York City FC and Manchester City FC announced that they’ve teamed up with Tinder to “create exciting and unique experiences for Tinder users and football fans.” Last April, a giant Tinder and Manchester City-branded blimp flew over the city of Manchester to celebrate the partnership. Last week, NYCFC fans had the chance to meet other singles at their Fan Appreciation Day. The first 50 Tinder users that arrived at the corner of Stanton Street and Essex Street were given free tickets to the game, with NYCFC players on site to distribute tickets and assist fans in finding their match. In case you were wondering, NYCFC faced off against the Philadelphia Union and won 3-1 in front of 26,000+ fans at Yankee Stadium.

We’ve already talked about some of the ways we can give back to the fans with one-of-a-kind experiences, but what about partnering with a dating app for a similar opportunity? There’s far more than just Tinder out there – Bumble, Coffee Meets Bagel, and Hinge are on the rise – but there’s also some specialty options like Farmers Only, Mullet Passions and Star Trek Dating. Should the FCFL partner with one of these companies to help you find love? More importantly, if we do, are we invited to the wedding? Would you like our players – the ones you’re drafting – help make introductions for you? What about getting them to help you write your profile bio? Or your wedding vows? Let us know!
