FAN Take is a series that highlights trending events, issues, and decisions in the world of sports and analyzes how they may or may not factor into the Fan Controlled Football League. We would love to hear your feedback, so let us know what you think about each FAN Take!
After the NFL Competition Committee got approval to adjust the rule regarding replay reviews for pass interference last month, they are finally taking the next steps to make it official, starting with coming up with the language for the rule. Per Yahoo Sports, “The league will hold conference calls and webinars with NFL officiating staff and head coaches to review the replay process for pass interference.” We understand that by including everyone, the NFL can say every voice was heard, but we have a feeling the committee has their work cut out for them with this task. After the language has been put together, all the teams will have a week to provide feedback before it goes into the 2019 season rulebook.
We previously covered the need for the rule change earlier this year, and think we can all agree that maybe the NFL just needs better officials in general, but we want to hear from the fans on what kind of language they expect to see added to the rule. Should Hail Mary plays be excluded from this, or will every play be fair game? Should teams be given an additional challenge flag? Or should teams be forced into being that much more selective with when they throw a flag? Do you want to see some kind of penalty placed on officials who miss blatant calls the first time around?
