Black Monday has come and gone, and teams have already begun hiring their new coaches. The Dallas Cowboys are bringing in Mike McCarthy (last with the Packers), Ron Rivera (formerly with the Panthers) is going to Washington, Matt Rhule (Baylor) is joining the Carolina Panthers – for 6 years and $60M! And, while nothing is official yet, it looks like the Patriots WR coach Joe Judge will be taking over for the Giants, with Jason Garrett (finally dumped by the Cowboys) as their new OC. While the internet is busy laughing at Mike McCarthy sleeping over at Jerry Jones’ home before their contract being official (and the idea of him bringing another team to the Super Bowl), we can’t wait to see what other coaching moves happen between now and the start of next season.
Do we think the fans want to have a say in who is coaching their team? Of course we do! We let the fans hire (and fire) their coach with our proof of concept team, the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles – and it didn’t turn out half bad. Plus, at the end of the day, the fans are the ones calling the plays, so it makes sense that they would want to have someone in place that they trust to help their team execute the plays flawlessly. Do we think the fans want the process to be as dramatic as it is in the NFL? Maybe? Some theatrics can’t hurt. Do we think they want to hold sleepovers with candidates? We’re going to go with a hard ‘no’ on that one. One thing we do know is that we can’t wait to see what kinds of questions the fans ask in their live interviews with the candidates!
