You know you must have done or said something seriously stupid to oust Roger Goodell as the most-hated commissioner in professional sports. That’s right, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred had #FireManfred trending on Twitter for a good chunk of the day yesterday after defending the punishments that were given to the Houston Astros for cheating their way into winning the 2017 World Series. Some of the key takeaways from the 5:14 minute-long interview include the following:
- The Astros apology was ‘not successful,’ according to Manfred. Duh.
- Any pitchers that throw at the Astros will be strictly punished for doing so (the irony here is off the charts)
- Manfred thinks that any boos the Astro players receive are punishment enough
- He called the coveted World Series trophy just a ‘piece of metal’
Yikes. We would not want to be that guy right now. While we’re not worried that a similar situation would happen in the FCFL, nor would FCFL commissioner Ray Austin bungle the whole thing so badly, we think we know how the fans would react. We think the members of the Virtual Front Office of each non-cheating team would demand a meeting with Ray to make their voices heard before any decision is made. And as for the future of the commissioner, should he screw the process up? We’re positive the fans would call for his fate to be put to a vote!
