FAN Take is a series that highlights trending events, issues, and decisions in the world of sports and analyzes how they may or may not factor into the Fan Controlled Football League. We would love to hear your feedback, so let us know what you think about each FAN Take!
Every few years we get to experience a scandal that takes the sports world by storm. Typically, it seems to be in football – Bountygate, Deflategate, etc. – but this time it’s in baseball. Over the last couple of weeks it came out that the Houston Astros cheated by using technology to steal signs in the 2017 World Series. The Astros have since parted with field manager AJ Hinch and GM Jeff Luhnow, and both men were suspended by MLB prior to their firings. The Boston Red Sox have already dismissed manager Alex Cora (who was previously a bench coach for the Astros) for his part in the sign-stealing scheme, while the league shifts their focus and investigates the Red Sox for their alleged us of technology to steal signs in 2018. It should be noted that Cora has yet to receive a formal punishment from MLB, but we’re sure they’re waiting to determine the terms until the Red Sox investigation has concluded. Both teams seem to think their respective titles aren’t tainted, but their decision to let go of individuals associated with the Astros scandal is pretty telling, if you ask us.
We’ve got some questions fans, and we know you have opinions! Specifically for these two teams, should they be required to return their World Series trophies and rings? Should they have to repay their cities for their victory parades? As it relates to the FCFL, does the old adage, “Once a cheater, always a cheater” apply here? Is it reasonable to assume that once you’ve caught someone cheating for your team, they will cheat for the next team they end up on? Or should that issue be avoided entirely by banning them from coaching in your league? Better yet, should the fans vote on whether or not to ban those individuals caught cheating? Let us know!
Power To The Fans!
