FAN Take is a series that highlights trending events, issues, and decisions in the world of sports and analyzes how they may or may not factor into the Fan Controlled Football League. We would love to hear your feedback, so let us know what you think about each FAN Take!
We’ve talked about quite a few sports in our FCFL Blog that are not football – everything from baseball to water polo – but today we’ve got another one for you: NASCAR. After inclement weather delay at the Daytona 500, Ryan Newman found himself in the lead during the final lap. Everything was going great, until Ryan Blaney made contact with Newman’s car, causing it to spin out, flip, slide down the speedway and catch fire. This crash truly was horrific, so be warned before hitting play:

Following the crash, Newman was rushed to the hospital where he was listed in serious condition. Good news is here, though, as Newman is apparently fully alert and joking with his family, per a statement from Roush Fenway Racing. While we’re happy to hear he is recovering and in good spirits, we have to wonder if Newman will continue his racing career. Fans, if one of your athletes were in recovery from an accident, would you want them to jump back in once they’re physically able to? Or would you encourage them to take some time to rethink their future plans until some time has passed? We don’t have a position on whether or not he should, but we want to hear what the fans have to say!
