Returning To Your Roots

What’s that saying again? ‘Never forget your roots.’ Yeah, that’s the one. That saying rings true more for athletes than anyone else it seems like. Jamaal Charles is the latest star to sign a one-day contract with a team he was once a part of in an effort to retire where it all started. The running back was selected by the Kanas City Chiefs with their third-round pick in 2008 and racked up a 7,620 yards over nine years with the team. The Chiefs let him go in 2017, only for him to end up with both the Denver Broncos and the Jacksonville Jaguars within the following two years.

Do we expect to see a similar trend in the FCFL? Sure. Fans will have the opportunity to trade players to other teams, but that doesn’t mean those players will lose any allegiance to the teams they initially get drafted to. If they decide after a few years to hang up their helmets for good, we think the fans will support them. Not only that, we think the fans will give those players the opportunity to retire with their original team if that’s what they want. Unlike other football leagues out there, the fans and players will have much more direct lines of communication to one another. Relationships are bound to form. So why wouldn’t the fans want to give the players that chance to go out in style, just the way they want to?
