Andrew Luck Just Ruined Your Fantasy Football Team

The FCFL would like to issue sincere condolences to all of you that not only had your fantasy football draft prior to the conclusion of preseason, but also to those who drafted Andrew Luck. News broke on Saturday night that the Indianapolis Colts QB would be retiring from the NFL at 29 years old. Not only did the news hit Saturday night, but Adam Schefter tweeted it before the Colts had even wrapped up their preseason game against the Chicago Bears. As he walked off the field, he was booed by unhappy Colts fans that, like us, had just received an ESPN alert. Following the game, he had this to say when addressing the press:

“For the last four years or, I’ve been in this cycle of injury, pain, rehab. Injury, pain, rehab. And it’s been unceasing, unrelenting — both in-season and offseason. And I felt stuck in it, and the only way I see out is to no longer play football.”

Andrew Luck

Doug Gottlieb was quick to jump on Twitter and criticize Luck for doing the ‘most millenial thing ever.’ And then the world turned on Gottlieb the same way Colts fans turned on Luck as he left the field on Saturday. Here are some of our favorite responses, including one from our very own Director of Football Technology, Jason Chilton:

Did the fans see this coming? Yes, but probably not so soon. Do they think he will end up playing in the XFL? Maybe. After all, his father, Oliver Luck, is the one in charge of making XFL 2020 a success. We also don’t think the fans can ignore that so far, only one QB (Landry Jones) has been signed – with the promise that the seven other ‘leading quarterbacks’ will be announced prior to their draft in October. One thing is for sure – we know the fans will be more focused on revising their fantasy rosters than waiting to hear if Andrew Luck is REALLY done with football.
